The Farrell Organization has continued expansion of its real estate portfolio with the launch of its new storage brand, Farrell Storage, a concept rooted in quality building, service, and experienced storage management.


The first site for Farrell Storage launched in Port Jefferson, and is being managed by Advantage Storage.

Located in Port Jefferson, Long Island, the first-ever Farrell Storage facility is managed by Advantage Storage, a national storage brand. The 113,000 sq. ft., state-of-the-art self-storage facility is fully climate controlled with heating and air conditioning. The facility includes over 800 units of varying size, with several drive-up units available. Are units all are priced according to size, floor, and location. In addition to self-storage units, there is also an RV and boat-storage lot that features the latest in storage technology.

Joe Farrell

Founder and President, Farrell Storage

Joe began his career on Wall Street as an oil trader on the New York Mercantile Exchange. In 1995 Joe bought his first piece of land in Brookville, New York, where he developed and sold his first move-in ready home.

In 1996, Joe merged his Wall Street expertise, business acumen, and passion for construction by creating Farrell Building Co. in the Hamptons. With over 400 projects completed over the last 20 years, Joe has built the largest home development company on the East End. From Joe's unique and innate ability to envision space to the unparalleled Farrell team he has assembled, Joe oversees every home built by his company.

As President of The Farrell Organization, Joe Farrell oversees all new developments for the organization's businesses including Farrell Commercial, Farrell Communities, Farrell Storage, and Farrell Building Company.

Chief Development Officer, Farrell Storage

From 1980 – 1988 Stephen owned the US’s largest independent manufacturer’s rep. group in the Contract Furnishings Business. During this time, he made several connections with facilities departments, architects and engineers, ultimately leading him into the real estate development business. In addition, he became a partner of several small office complexes and four condominium projects in Hartford, Ct., and Boston, Mass. From 1990 to 1997 Stephen was Chief Development Officer for Boston Market and was responsible for opening and/or acquiring over 550 store locations from Boston to Washington, D.C. Following that, Stephen was a consultant to Shurgard Self Storage (now Public Storage). He coordinated the acquisition of 12 new locations and was responsible for obtaining approvals and overseeing the construction of these stores over a three-year period.

From 1997 to 2005 Stephen was a partner at Lorich Construction Management and was responsible for the development of over 20 banking locations, several retail centers, a large condominium project, many office complexes and multiple fast food and convenience store developments. He developed this business to more than 10 times the previous volume. During this time, Stephen also developed an Equestrian Center of 60 acres, which included 15 single family homes, three additional single family home complexes, a Shopping Center and two Self Storage facilities.

In partnership with The Farrell Organization, Stephen is currently developing a national roll-national out of Self Storage Facilities. He is also responsible for locating multi-family development sites for the Farrell Organization and coordinating the acquisition, approval and construction of these projects, with a goal of developing 600 units for launch. Stephen received his BS degree from Babson College in Management and studied finance at the Univ. of Hartford.

In 1986 Jeff began his self-storage career with National Self Storage, Inc. of Tucson, Arizona, overseeing properties in their western markets. He was recruited to Public Storage, Inc. where he served ten years as a Regional Manager. During this time, he transferred to the corporate headquarters to serve as Public Storage’s National Director of Marketing and returned to operations as Vice President, Canadian Mini-Warehouse Properties, Limited, a TSE subsidiary of Public Storage, Inc. He also served as Vice President, Operations for Public Storage Management Division.

In 1997 Jeff founded Advantage Advisors, LLC and created Advantage Self Storage™. The Advantage Advisors management operations started with third party owned properties in NY, MA, CT, VA, MD, PA, WI and IL, and soon acquired and developed six properties in Ontario, Canada and six properties in Maryland for the Advantage portfolio, putting Advantage Advisors, LLC onto the Top Operators lists as named by both Inside Self Storage Magazine and The Mini Storage Messenger.

Jeff currently serves the Advantage Development Group as the Managing Member and President. In partnership with The Farrell Organization, Jeff is managing a multiple location roll-out of Self Storage Facilities nationally. Jeff is a member of the Boards of Directors for the Maryland Self Storage Association and the Colorado Self Storage Association, is a frequent presenter at national and international industry conventions, has served as an expert witness in storage related litigations, and has several articles published in Inside Self Storage Magazine.
